FRESCO NO.7CHERISH HOME
SIMA NAEIMI
SIMA NAEIMI
When I miss home, I look for the mountains. I settle somewhere in the city and contemplate them, as if the gaze could enlarge the image, erase the city, dissolve the noise, and leave only their presence.
Over there, the mountains carry a memory. They are symbols of resistance and silent strength. Through social media, we sometimes catch a glimpse of the connection people have with them: they appear in the background of images, not as scenery, but as a trace, a way of inhabiting the world.
They also speak of disparities. Being able to see them from the windows of one’s home is not something everyone has access to. They trace an invisible geography of privilege. They extend beyond the city, enveloping it, and yet sometimes they can only be glimpsed through a taxi window, on leaving the metro, in a suspended moment. They also become a fragile indicator of pollution, depending on the way they reveal themselves or disappear into the air.
For me, the mountains speak of resilience. They are a constant, almost motionless presence, a silent force that traverses time, and a way of softening the harshness of life here.
