L’ESPRIT DE L'ESCALIER -
JEREMIAH X SOUPLEX
JEREMIAH X SOUPLEX
Souplex Atelier, consisting of artists-in-residence Tanguy Troubat and Vincent Grange, collaborated with Jeremiah for the fashion exhibition of the latter's ‘Teenage Business’ collection. Jeremiah’s collection tells the story of a fictional awkward young man navigating his first job interviews.
The poetic and narrative-driven scenographyproduced by Souplex was inspired by the French expression L’esprit de l’escalier — the moment when the perfect comeback comes to mind too late. They brought this to life by designing spaces — modular panels in zigzag pattern — where the character mentally revisits his interview conversations: a bus stop, a friend’s basement, or the toilets of a nightclub. This fragmented staging mirrors his scattered thoughts and endearing clumsiness, immersing the audience in his world — a space both touching and disoriented, capturing the struggles of stepping into adulthood.
Designed to be modular, the setup also doubled as the backdrop for the collection's photoshoot. Through this production, Souplex introduced the audience to the distinct world of ‘Teenage Business’ and its ‘stressed, depressed but always well-dressed’ hero.
défis de la vie adulte, offrant une immersion dans son univers à la fois touchant et désorienté.
